Response to Covid-19

(Sigle Mothers and Vulnerable Children)

Young Mothers
Currently our hearts and focus are with expectant pregnant young mothers and vulnerable children who are not sure how they are going to go through this season of Covid-19 pandemic especially during this lockdown and quarantine period.

Adolescents make up 34.8% of Uganda's total population making Uganda to have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Sub-Saharan Africa with over 25% of the adolescent girls and young women aged between 15 and 19 are pregnant or already mothers. There is a rapidly creasing number of young pregnant women who are found of being rejected by the irresponsible men and thrown outside homes by their poor families, they are frustrated to an extent that some commit suicide, they are hit by depression. Everyone knows what it means to be pregnant and not be able to get something to eat and worried about the labor period and the special Baby (Child).

Vulnerable Children (Home Learning Initiative)
Since the school closures that was ordered by the government of Uganda due to corona virus, (as of March 24) impacting at least 1.5 billion children and youth. There fewer opportunities for children to learning at home, and their time out of school may present economic burdens for poor parents who may face challenges finding prolonged childcare, or even adequate food in the absence of school meals, in addition to the worrying and rapidly creasing number of teenage pregnancies during this lockdown season

As schools, teachers, parents and caregivers wondering what they can do to help children/students continue learning during COVID-19. At PCCS we believe that children can still learn from home, our sponsors, donors, volunteers can support our “Home Learning Initiative” to help every child receive a wonderful home learning experience.
